In our industry motivation or inspiration can go hand in hand. It can also be be far and few in between. As a stylist how do we “come up” with new and creative styles, colors, cuts, and trends? That is our inspiration side of the business. I personally find inspiration in sunsets, architecture, and the human personality. I love pulling color inspiration from flowers, sunsets, cold winter days and bubbly little personalities. Other stylists inspire and drive me to become the best me that I can be. I love that you can take a cut, color or style that you see and put your own twist on it and make it yours. Or that you can see a crazy clean fade and strive to improve on it and try to do and even cleaner fade. Salon atmosphere is huge to inspire and create new trends and styles for your clients. With that said I always encourage our graduates to go and hang out in the salon that they are thinking about joining to make sure it is a good fit for them and that they can vibe with and build that confidence and knowledge to become the best stylist that they can be and continue to grow.

Now motivation can be as simple as a new car, house, trip, shoes, party or anything that you desire. This industry is huge as a self motivator industry. If you don’t motivate yourself you will not survive in this giant pool of stylists. Motivation has to come from you for you and your desire to be the top 20% of the stylists. Motivation is the difference between success and failure. This industry has been great to me and my family for 3 generations of stylists and more to come. Stay happy, stay humble and stay motivated to inspire others to strive to be like you, successful.
