Building a Solid Stylist and Client Relationship

Establishing a Good Relationship with Your Client

The client-stylist relationship works like any other kind of, there will be good and bad days. There will be days when a client is blissfully happy about their cuts. Other days when the idea they had in mind did not work out and it leaves them miserable and lashing out. As with any successful relationship, communication is a key element. This is one way you can ensure your client’s remain happy and your day is stress-free.

Communicating with Your Client’s

There are several instances and ways a stylist must communicate with their clients. Such as if you become overbooked or run late for their appointment. Tell your client as soon as you realize what is going on rather than let them sit and wait. If it looks like you will not be able to get to then anytime soon, ask if it will be ok to reschedule and offer a discount. Your client will appreciate your respecting their time.
A stylist is safe to assume that the client did not ask questions before booking their appointment. You may have to take the time to sit with a client before you start cutting. Have patience to ensure that you both understand kind of style or coloring they want. Also be upfront about your pricing since sticker shock at the end of a cut tends to be uncomfortable.
Going back to the discussion of cut and color that will happen at every appointment. There will be times when client’s come in with a photo or an idea for their cut. While they are extremely excited, you may see that their idea might not work for their face shape or coloring. Rather than burst their bubble, gently suggest a similar haircut or an alternative. When you make your suggestions mention how they will highlight aspects of their face.
